Anatomy of a Web Project

Every site has a main menu (often referred to as a “nav bar” or “site navigation”). You need to figure out yours. This means being precise about the wording of each selection. For example, your calendar page could be called “events”, “tour”, “shows”, “gigs”, “calendar” or many others. Your bio page could be labeled, “bio”, “about” and so on. The main menu also enables us to quantify how large the site is, which is sometimes necessary to determine the cost.

For larger sites (over 8 or 9 pages) we often need a second level of navigation, where the web pages are grouped into sections. Sites of this nature often require a more formal “site map”, typically done in a spread sheet, which demonstrates how the pages are organized.
