Anatomy of a Web Project

After the first version (the so-called “beta version”) of a website is completed and available for review, there are inevitably tweaks and changes. This is part of the process. It’s routine and included in the budget. However, not all changes are equal – even though they may appear to be very similar. Request “A” may seem similar to request “B”, but in fact one may take 15 minutes and the other may take 2 hours. I will always try to accommodate all requests for tweaks and changes, although sometimes there comes a point where it cannot be included in the budget. (For larger sites, a document that details the scope-of-work often clarifies this situation, but for smaller sites, its not feasible to define the scope-of-work in such detail.)

If a tweak or change results in having to redo a portion of work after it has been completed correctly the first time, this is a “change order” which result in additional services.

A contingency budget is always recommended in case you decide that major changes to the site are necessary after you've reviewed the beta version.
