Depending on how it’s implemented, Flash animation can either make a site much better, or make it much worse. One thing it ALWAYS does is make it more expensive. If you’re business or band is just getting started, or you don’t have much money, you don’t need it.

On the other hand, if you are major label, or want to be perceived of as major label, you DO need it. Virtually every site for the top artists in every genre of music are Flash-heavy sites. However, Flash-heavy sites are a burden to maintain, always cost more and I almost never recommend it.

The current trend in web design is now to avoid Flash entirely for one specific reason: Flash will not function on an iPad or iPhone. Fortunately, many of the same functions such as a slide show can be achieved with other technologies (such as HTML5).
